(Reuters) Sony Corp has cut prices on its proprietary flash memory format, which will bring its pricing closer to competing standards. Sony's chewing-gum-shaped ``Memory Stick'' now runs from $24.95 for the 8-megabyte stick (previously $29.99) to $149.95 for the 128-megabyte stick (previously $279.99).

(AP) IBM is betting that computing power will evolve into a simple utility - like electricity - with users buying what they need from a computing grid instead of owning large computers themselves. To capitalize, IBM is investing $4 billion to build 50 computer server farms around the world, said Irving Wladawsky-Berger, a vice president at IBM's Server Group. IBM likened the system to computing power-generation plants.

(Press Release) AeA, the nation's largest high-tech industry association, today announced that W.J. Sanders III, co-founder of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), will receive its 2001 Medal of Achievement. Sanders joins a select group of high-tech leaders who have received the honor, including William Hewlett and David Packard of Hewlett Packard, Ross Perot of Electronic Data Systems, Thomas J. Watson, Jr. of IBM and Gordon Moore and Andrew Grove of Intel. Sanders will be the forty-eighth recipient of the coveted award which will be presented at AeA's annual dinner to be held October 4 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California. Known for his energy and memorable sound bites, Sanders' contributions to the valley and high-tech industry span more than three decades. Sanders is founder of AMD, a pioneer of the semiconductor industry and high-tech marketing genius. He is credited with strategically guiding AMD to the preeminent position it holds today in microprocessor and flash memory products. Under his leadership, AMD has grown from a living room-housed start-up to a global corporation with revenues of $4.6 billion in 2000.
