(Press Release) VIA Technologies has announced details of the Viatech Fall Tour 2001, a series of one day roadshows showcasing the new VIA P4X266 series of mainboards bringing DDR266 SDRAM memory to the Intel Pentium 4 platform for the first time. Each event will include an in-depth introduction to the exciting performance of the new VIA P4X266 Series mainboards, live product demonstrations and a DDR SDRAM showcase from industry partners Crucial, Smart Modular and Hynix Semiconductor.

The Viatech Fall Tour 2001 will start in the U.S. in Chicago, IL on October 24th and then to Toronto, Canada on October 25th, Sao Paulo, Brazil on October 30th, City of Industry, CA on November 1st, Mexico City, Mexico on November 5th and Atlanta, GA on November 7th, before the final event in Fremont, CA on November 9th.

(Press Release) FIC has announced that its popular socket A motherboard, the 1stMainboard AD11 is one of the few DDR motherboards to be officially recognized by AMD for support of its Athlon XP processor 1800+. FIC was one of the industry's frontrunners in developing solutions for the Athlon processor, and has already enjoyed immense success with its Slot A and Socket A solutions. The state of the art 1stMainboard AD11 is no exception and receives the distinction of being the first motherboard to be recommended by AMD for 266 MHz FSB support.

The 1stMainboard AD11 is based around a hybrid chipset consisting of the AMD 761 North Bridge and the VIA 686B as the South Bridge and benefits significantly from the advanced Irongate 4 architecture of the 761 chip. Weekly Memory Prices: We're still seeing more and more price drops, this week on memory. Who else remembers paying $150 for 4 megs of RAM? My, how times have changed.

(Press Release) ATI Technologies Inc. announced that IBM has included ATI's MOBILITY RADEON GPU in its ThinkPad A30 and A30p notebook personal computers. The IBM ThinkPad A30p notebook PC, which features MOBILITY RADEON graphics, recently won an Intel Innovative PC Award. IBM's ThinkPad A Series notebooks also include a Mobile Intel Pentium III processor-M operating at up to 1.2 GHz. Select IBM ThinkPad A Series notebooks also feature up to a 48 GB high-speed hard drive, Integrated 802.11b and Bluetooth wireless, and two modular bays that can house a variety of optional devices including a modular DVD/CD-RW optical drive. One of the bays, the new Ultrabay Plus, offers the additional options of a Numeric Keypad or Cradle for the WorkPad c500 Series. Other features include up to a 15" TFT display that can display up to UXGA (ultra extended graphics adaptor) resolutions (1600 X 1200 pixels). This high-end ThinkPad FlexView display features IPS technology, which provides greater brightness, superior contrast and an exceptionally wide 170-degree viewing angle.

(Press Release) Intel Corporation today announced third quarter revenue of $6.5 billion, down 25 percent from the third quarter of 2000 and up 3 percent sequentially. For the third quarter, net income excluding acquisition-related costs(a) was $655 million, down 77 percent from the third quarter of 2000 and 23 percent sequentially. Third quarter earnings excluding acquisition-related costs were $0.10 per share, a decrease of 76 percent from $0.41 in the third quarter of 2000 and 17 percent sequentially. Including acquisition-related costs in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, third quarter net income was $106 million, down 96 percent from the third quarter of 2000 and 46 percent sequentially. Earnings per share were $0.02, down 94 percent from $0.36 in the third quarter of 2000 and 33 percent sequentially. Intel reduced its third-quarter tax provision by $100 million due to an increase in the calculated tax benefit related to export sales for 2000, including the impact of a revision in the tax law. Acquisition-related costs in the third quarter consisted of $609 million of amortization of goodwill and other acquisition-related intangibles and costs.
