    When will that happen?

    By PointlesS August 22, 2001, 11:28 PM

when radeon 8500 and radeon 7500 come out...I think...

    And when will that happen??

    By PointlesS August 23, 2001, 02:33 AM

    mid or late september...

Man eji I think you are asking questions that are pretty impossible to answer. nVidia hasn't announced price cuts on their products so there won't be any. Unless of course they release a new chip pretty soon.

Why would they drop prices? They can also just phase out the geforce pro's, just like the ultra's. Especially when the GEforce3Mx will come out. Then the pro will have no purpose.

Exactly what I'm trying to tell him. There's just no point in cutting prices on the pro. Anyways I think the Pro is already very cheap now.

    By Fusion_Face August 23, 2001, 10:06 AM

don't get the pro. it's good. but not worth the extra money from a gts 32mb. in 16 bit colour before 1024 resolution the performance is virtualy the same. but note that in 32 bit colour and at high resolution there will be a significant performance increase from the 32 mb version. i suggest overclocking the card. your talking a 15 to 20 % performance increase if you push it far enough

A Pro is not that good of a investment, better go with a Ultra or even better a G3. The price difference to the Ultra is small and is quite significant at higher resolutions/detail.

    By PointlesS August 23, 2001, 03:46 PM

price difference to the ultra is small?? (from pricewatch) geforce 2 ultra (64 meg)$197....geforce 2 pro (64 meg)$126....difference is....$71....

Anyways a pro is a good buy it cost about 100$ go for it its got higher clock speed then the GTS and if you want you can maybe overclock it to that of an ultras speed,it may be posible

In that case i might go for the leadtek geforce 2 pro at newegg.com for $118

shhh...don't tell anyone...at least..not before i make my purchase. lol

By AMD Soldier August 23, 2001, 05:00 PM

To all that say the Pro is a bad investment. You can't simply be more wrong.

Some Pro's can be o/c'ed past Ultra speeds. Mine for example is a lot faster than a Ultra and costs a lot less.

I have a GTS as well, I can tell you that I'd pay $20 or whatever it is extra for a Pro. The GTS lags a bit in some games even @ 1024x768, but with the Pro I can play almost any game @ 1600x1200 with decent fps.

I'm not sure, but you might want to pay the $20 extra and get the MSI with 64MB. I'm thinking of doing that myself.

64 mb ram is not gonna do much due to the current Geforce 2's memory bandwidth issues and texturing abilities.. you will only see a significant difference in really large textures and resolutions (way above 1024x768)... better to spend the extra cash on a gpu fan and ram heatsinks for the 32mb and it will overclock like crazy.... the memory speed is more important than size here.

    here is an example...

    i have a 1.2 @ 1.45
    epox 8k7a
and leadtek gf pro 32 running 218/435

    my friend has a 1.33 running 1.47
    asus a7m266
and hercules gf pro 64 running 205/412

    my 3dmarks score was 4136
    and his was 3890

OCing the memory did way more than the extra 32mb memory.

if possible wait for GF3 MX to come out.. cause they will have the native GF3 abilities (inifinte engine, etc) and just underclocked a little.

    By sapphoo August 24, 2001, 06:25 AM

why are they still making the TNT2?

because it is cheap to make and big bucks can be made through OEM deals???
