As anticipated last week, Handspring today introduced two new handhelds, Visor Pro and Visor Neo. The $300 Visor Pro is a rechargeable, expandable handheld with 16MB of memory and the $200 Visor Neo is an entry-level, level handheld with the same computing power but has slightly less memory (8MB) and uses AAA batteries. Taken form macnn OMG $300 for a greyscale Palm, come on thats way too much money. Its crazy, this is why Palm and Handspring are going out of bussines. The $300 one should be at least $200 and the $200 one should be $100-$150. Who came up with the idea that over charging people will help them Duo

Just like people who buy expensive cell phones with all the BS features and brag about how nice of a phone they have. But, when you ask them if they use any of them the reply is a sheeply admitted, "no". Kind of like all those suckers that just thought they had to have a DVD player 3 years ago and paid out the a$$ for one. Now you can get them sub $100s. Heck, you can even get a progressive scan one now for less then $250. BC

I wouldn't consider Palms to be overly expensive for what they are. If you think about the amount of power that they have, compared to the size and the weight they are bloody good value. The amount of miniaturisation that goes into the design it is not really surprising that the components cost more.As for the new Visors why not look at the out going Palms (Vx & IIIc). I've just paid under £200 ($300) for a 8mb Palm IIIc (was £300 / $450), with keyboard (normally £70 / $105), leather case (£30 / $45) and in car charger (£20 / $30). That's a total retail cost of (£420 / $630) worth of kit for under half price. I admit that at that price it was a rip off but at under £200 it's a bargain.

However, if it weren't for these people then the rest of us wouldn't be able to reap the rewards of this technology 6 months down the line when it much cheaper.

Palm and others charge so much because they can. It wasn't till the advent of the Visor that Palm finally game in and make a cheap Palm (Palm 3e, really). If you look at Palm's marketing data, the average Palm purchaser made around 80k$ per year and was over 30 and was a manager of some kind. I am sure that has changed with the release of their low cost M100s and the like. Palm makes pretty decent money off their handhelds. And Compaq makes even more money on their iPaqs. They are going to make even more money when they ship out their new handhelds since everyone in the PocketPC arena are gearing their handhelds towards the enterprise market.

The Kyocera Palm phone is decent. But, I've only seen Sprint offer it, which is a bad thing here in the Silicon Valley since their coverage is poopie.I like the Ericsson R380e a bit more since it's form factor is not so "plump" as the Palm and still does a good amount of things that the Palm does. quote:Originally posted by kid A: If I ever get a Palm thingy it has to be a cellphone with those capabilities included.
