Crucial, just when I thought they couldn't go any lower...
    By dissonant October 24, 2001, 03:01 PM

... they lower prices yet again!

Now you can get 256mb of PC2100 for $29.69 shipped second day air. Use the 15% off coupon http://www.crucial.com/evguide/ and get it for $28.04 shipped.

By Headshot Harry October 24, 2001, 04:06 PM

Where can I get me a coupon, maybe they are selling it before they bring out their 512 MB chips/

    By Kero-chan October 24, 2001, 04:23 PM

man, that's just freakin rediculous... how can they make any profits? i mean, is it like $.02 to make ram chips?

i remember when i was drooling over buying 32 megs for $300 and thinking it was a deal...

Yea, I noticed that they only seemed to go up to 512mb of the pc2100. Are you aware of plans on their part to release the 512 mb sticks?

    By Phaethon October 24, 2001, 04:27 PM

    Heh.

I thought that this was going to be a rant against Crucial. Only reason I read the post was to find out what anybody had against them .

I almost bought some DDR RAM from Crucial when it was first available, I don't remember for sure but Crucial had it for the lowest price at the time, for something like $100 for 128 megs. I'm kinda glad I held off .

The link in my original message was to the 15% off coupon. It says it's a "one time discount" but I'm thinking of trying to use it a second time. http://www.crucial.com/evguide/

Offer expires October 31 on the coupon.

Phaethon: Lol, when I re-read my subject title I realized it did sound like it was going to be a Crucial rant. I've NEVER heard anyone rip on Crucial so I'd be just as curious

    EDIT: here's a different 15% off coupon http://www.crucial.com/promo/index.asp?prog=qzd

    By m316foley October 24, 2001, 05:20 PM

LOL! It would be funny to actually see someone rip on crucial.

    By Raptor2150 October 24, 2001, 05:36 PM

Yeah, that is an insane price for ram...
I do hope that they put out a 512 mb stick soon. I emailed them about a week ago asking about it and all the rep could say was 'in the near future'. Hopefully this means they're planning on releasing it...

    no it wouldnt

    By Ashpool October 24, 2001, 07:34 PM

    Seriously, where's the bottom?

They gotta stop at ONE point or another.

    By Xero October 24, 2001, 09:18 PM

Soon 1 gig will cost under $50, this is going to be insane. Imagine a computer, by standard, having 1 gig of memory. To think a few years ago 32 megs used to be alot. And before that, 4 megs was alot, I could go on forever with this so I am stopping now. LoL

    By Trav2003 October 24, 2001, 10:11 PM

I paid 118 for my 256MB stick of pc1600 and at the time (February of this year) thought It was the best deal every, soon I want to buy a 512MB stick of pc2100 DDR and I'm still eagerly awaiting the crucial 512MB launch, but I'm not seeing it coming, I email crucial a while back and they said they had no idea when it was coming out, other reports said Fall, Winter, or early spring, so that really does us no good

    By Hateslife October 24, 2001, 11:16 PM

Dude, ram is cheaper than hard drive space used to be.

    29.69$ / 256 = 11.5 cents!
400$ / 500(hard drive labels are done by powers of ten, for marketing reasons) = 80 cents!

Hehe, not quite. That would be quite cool however. The reason that ram prices are so low right now is that they have over produced the sticks and are clearing out the warehouses. Give it a few months and prices will start to up again.

    By talldude October 24, 2001, 11:29 PM

looking good...i'm just about to order my ram, looks like it was a good decision to have held off for a few weeks, down about $5. The funny thing is, it's cheaper having the crucial delivered here by airmail (15 dollar shipping to japan) than it is to get equivalent quality here without shipping. one thing you can't find is good ram, that's why i'm going with crucial.

    By LiquidGoop October 24, 2001, 11:37 PM

Anybody on the US east coast want to hook a canadian up? a 256meg non-crucial DDR stick goes for 40 US dollars, plus shipping. If I ordered from crucial myself the border tax would make it unprofitable. Local resellers sell crucial 256 DDR for 50 US dollars. Anyone want to help hook me up with 2 sticks?

who were you refering to LilROck?

CadetLee, so whats a difference of 6 dollars? that Micron can be had for that price in canadian dollars from ingram micro, microcad, misco, etc. And your price is in US dollars, not counting exhcnage rate for border tax.

So all in all I think Micron is cheaper.

    By LilRock86 October 25, 2001, 01:30 AM

cummon C! im not a complete fool! the guy talking about that one site, notice he had 1 post and talked about the site like it was god, i mean please "A great memory vendor is memorysuppliers.com. Well, I'm not in Canada.

I think a difference of 6 dollars is enough to make one cheaper than the other:

    cheap (chp)
    adj. cheap·er, cheap·est

Relatively low in cost; inexpensive or comparatively inexpensive.
    http://www.dictionary.com/cgi-bin/dict.pl?term=cheaper

    Isn't Crucial made by Micron?

Yes Crucial is a division of Micron. It's rumored that they get some of their best chips.

    By richardginn October 25, 2001, 06:22 PM

    under 30 bucks???

    Man is that cheap.

I say under 25 bucks by the end of the year.

    This is way too low.

    By [C] October 25, 2001, 07:38 PM
