Last week Los Angeles based Xatrix Entertainment held a press event to showcase their latest work in progress, Kingpin. The behind the scenes event took place in Xatrix's Westwood offices. Comprised of the few, the proud and the jaded, a group of journalists were crammed into a room that was a little too small and a little too hot and watched as Drew Markham, President of Xatrix, played through some of Kingpin's levels. Members of the design team were on hand to answer the media's questions as the demonstration was taking place. Afterwards, the procession moved to Gotham Hall in Santa Monica where everyone had the chance to mingle, play Kingpin and even meet with rappers Cypress Hill.
Initially, Kingpin looks like most of the recent first person shooters. The game shares a lot of aspects with its competition, including the standard mini-arsenal of weapons, the generous helpings of gore and a whole lot of eye candy. After having a chance to play through some of the levels however, it becomes clear that Xatrix isn't going to blindly follow a path set by others, a smart move, especially considering their current crop of titles.
