  • Welcome to the Technology Extreme Buyer's Guide, the newest section of Sharky Extreme that focuses on coverage of existing and emerging consumer electronics products. We're launching with the January guide to the hottest electronic products that money can buy. This guide will be updated monthly as new items are tested and released to retail store shelves.

The term 'consumer electronics' is a loose one at best, incorporating everything from DVD players to home audio systems, MP3 music players and even robotic dogs. Thousands of new products are added to the category each year, yet only the items that perform well in terms of sales will continue to be offered in an industry dominated by a mentality of 'survival of the fittest'.

The list of products we've compiled for January is testimony to the amazing technological breakthroughs that have occurred in the fields of micronization and memory storage in 1999, and it's clear that we haven't seen anything yet in terms of what will be offered throughout 2000 and beyond.

So which consumer electronics devices wound up being our top picks for the month, garnering our highest recommendation and praise?

In no order of preference, let's begin with number Ten.
