The most amazing feature of this MD recorder is its size. It's barely larger than the disk itself and fits in just about any pocket. Weighing in at 190 grams when loaded, it fits the ideals of a portable audio device.

The traditional problem with portable audio devices that use laser technology to read media was skipping during playback. CD players developed anti-shock technology, essentially eliminating the problem by storing the music in a buffer before playing it back. The MZ-R55 uses this same technique by employing 40 second Shock Resistant Memory. By keeping up to 40 seconds of your music in buffer, it takes a lot of shaking for skipping to occur. While walking or car trips go without a hitch, those of you who listen to music while you jog will probably end up with the music skipping at some point.

While many of you may not be accustomed to a remote control on a portable audio device, it is the part of the MD player you will interact with the most. Luckily, the remote on the MZ-R55 is very well designed. It is backlit for easy reading in the dark and contains just about all the functions you can perform on from the base unit. In addition, you have the freedom of plugging in any set of ear buds or headphones into the 1/8th inch stereo jack on the top of the remote control.

With such a well thought out remote control, editing, adding and deleting tracks becomes a cinch. A track can be added simply by pressing the T Mark button at the point you want the track to be added. To delete a track mark, one simply pauses the recorder, finds the beginning of the track and hits the T Mark button again. Finally, if there's a part of a track you want to delete, simply add track marks around that section of music and delete the track. This makes creating your own personal mixes completely stress-free.
